Lexus LS460 named gadget hound's ride of choice

If you think that the kid with the most toys wins, you might be interested to know that the Lexus LS 460 has been named the king of high-tech by the Telematics Research Group. TRG says that the LS will have more technology features than any other vehicle offered for sale in the North American market when it rolls off the production line for the 2007 model year. Special gadgets include the vehicle's 30GB hard drive for navigation and music, parking aid cameras, a 19-speaker sound system capable of reading MP3 and other media formats, Bluetooth, voice-activated navigation and other goodies.

Not long ago another "tech junkie" organization awarded the BMW 7-series with the same accolade.

The S-class lacks a touchscreen. It also lacks lane departure warning, both of which the Lexus LS 460 possesses. The 7-series also lacks both these features. The S-class and 7-series tied for the #2 position so are very well equipped, but technological differences like these gave the LS 460 the leg up.

These are the same types of idiots that go to Best Buy to buy a home theater receiver and looks only at the spec sheets.

Huh....I am not follwing what you are saying or what analogy you are trying to make? If you UNDERSTAND what specifications mean for a receiver it can be a fine way to buy (or course, listening to it along with speakers that match the receiver is also important). Or are you talking about someone who is wooed by a "110 WATTS PER CHANNEL!!!!" sticker? Either way, I do not see what that has to do with anything here.

Slanina #1 Dont be an idiot. S550 is clearly ranked behind LS 460 at No. 2. Did you even read the news piece?
Another point: Lexus should let this new LS 460 compete head-to-head with 7-series in pricing. LS 460 can start at $69K and LS 460L could begin at $73K. It will still be a tremendous value compared to S550.
Lexus should move away from cut-rate pricing if it wants to become a global luxury brand.

Sounds like a lot of stuff to go wrong after the warranty is up. Yeah I know its a Lexus, but even their electronics won't last forever.
I don't think I would buy a used one.

Lexus cars exude such levels of comfort and luxury you could only wish GM or Ford could put into their vehicles. And the best part? These cars last longer, not only in mechanicals but also in resale value.
I hope to test drive one soon, but to decide on which one?

Last I checked, cars are meant to be driven, and the 7-Series drives better than any other in its class. Better handling, better feel.

#13:
1. The 7-series starts off with a 4.8L V8 (750i), and the 760 is a 6.0L V12 (760i), so guess again.
2. The LS460 is a slightly smaller V8 with about the same power rating, and soon you'll be seeing the LS600h (5.0L V8 with a hybrid-electric motor) which will compete with the likes of the 760i and other similar MBs.

JUst test drove a 5 series (525 and 530)) since I am looking for a new car...what slugs on the road, slow as hell. The inside (dash) looked like it was 20 years old. Also, Consumer Guide and Consumer Reports rate the BMW's lower than Lexus....SorryChalie.

"Lexus should move away from cut-rate pricing if it wants to become a global luxury brand"
What a silly and thoughtless comment!
I have owned and drove up to year 1999 two Mercedes cars: 1982 SEL 380 and 1989 SEL 560, each bought about 1 year old. For those 17 years, I liked those cars but I have experienced all kind of stupid, costly problems with electric windows, electric sits, front breaks, engines, and every other thing that I do not care to mention here.
When the time came, I did lot of thinking and switched to brand new Lexus LS 430. I did that because I was able to save $25,000.00 comparing to new MB S-series. And guess what with LS 430, as a bonus, I got better, faster engine, better quality interior, better mileage, and most important of all defect free driving.
I personally like to drive luxury value not a costly luxury pretense.
Question: What is “a $250,000.00 global luxury brand” which breaks down in the middle LA freeway with a star inside?

The people on here that are raving about the 7 Series and S-Class are probably the same ones bitching about them on other posts. We all know that the 7 Series and S-Class are ugly and expensive German junk. They may project the image that you're rich and drive a Global Luxury Brand (Whatever)vehicle. We also know that the majority of your time is spent at the dealership on stupid electrical problems that comes with ownership. No thanks, I'll take the Lexus anyday and know that I'm not bitter because I'm not trying to impress people with my Global Luxury Brand vehicle!
