Lamborghini-badged VX1 laptop to be unveiled in Monterey
No, it's not a new high-powered supercar, but the Asus Lamborghini-VX1 will still turn some, albeit geeky, heads. Scheduled to debut in Monterey, California at the 2006 Concorso Italiano "Celebration of Italian Style," on August 18th, the laptop produced by Asus Computer International is borrowing the Lambo name to gain a little mileage out of its newest high-end notebook. The laptop will be unveiled at a press conference at Lamborghini's tent and will be featured at both the Asus and Lambo stands throughout the event.
Borrowing some processing power from Intel as well as the NVIDIA GeForceGo 7400VX Special Edition graphics engine makes the notebook one of the most powerful out there, befitting of something wearing the infamous bull logo. Until we take a "road test", however, we can't say for sure, but we'd look forward to the small, lightweight design and ample power, if we planned to buy one.

Could they have been any more obvious in stealing the idea from Acer and Ferrari?
While clearly a marketing gimmick, at least come up with an original one... honestly, this is pathetic.

Anybody who actually buys Ferrari or Lambo laptops is a fool. And yes, it's a blatant rip-off.

It's a long story. The president of Asus went to the president of Acer complaining about the trackpad on his Ferrari laptop. The president of Acer said "[y]ou stick to building non co-branded laptops, I'll build the sports car co-branded laptops." In his outrage at this remark the president of Asus built the Lamborgini laptop.
Seriously, this isn't auto news. Is there a blog for poser co-branded products? The world will beat a path to the door of whatever company comes out with a Harley laptop.

I would totally buy one. It's probably faster than other computer because it is a Lamborghini. And it comes in yellow. Also, it's probably the only Lamborghini that I could ever afford.

This thing is a disappointment to the Lamborghini name. In order to fit everything into the slim and attractive chassis they had to compromise on the video card. Within Asus' own lineup there are at least two faster mobile video cards. The VX1 is essentially the V1J with an expensive auto paint job and the Lambo badge. The V1J is an excellent laptop, but it's a design that puts form factor over performance. This is more of an Audi TT than an insane beast.

No doubt. I bet you could even get away with a Ducati computer. I think cross marketing is cool. It at least saves me some time on putting racing stickers on my notebook.
Hey, I have a Porsche Designs Hard Drive at home and it looks and works great. I just like it being a Porsche. It's fun.

Well, this Lamborghini laptop is a rebadge of another Asus, with approximately the same specs, for $900 more (I heard this from a reseller, apparently the VX1 will go for around 2800). Internally, it offers nothing unique compared to the model it is based off, unlike the Acer Ferrari series, which use carbon fiber casing (compared to the standard plastic), better procesors, better graphics cards, better screens, and better quality than their mainstream counterparts. Also, Acer doesnt charge as much for their Ferrari rebadge. Take the non-Ferrari TM8200 (which shares everything with the Ferrari 5000, except for the ferrari badges and the AMD cpu). It is still going for upwards of 2100, while the Ferrari commands 2400. its pretty reasonable, compared to Asus.

In the end who cares? Just look at the clothes you wear from the polo to the shoes all are advertising something.
Do I really care if you're wearing Tommy,Izod,Nike or whatever, do I care if you over paid for a Lamborghini-badged VX1 laptop, not really it's your business and your money.
Do I think it looks cool? You bet!

I am a college student, and brand image is everything to us. Still, I would hate to think about spending that much money on something that could be purchased for far less, with out the logo.
What is making you all either want to, or not want to buy this computer?
